Kristin here. I’m originally from the Detroit area, but have lived in South Korea, Silicon Valley, Joshua Tree, and currently Los Angeles. Here are some things I love:
Dogs I have two retired racing greyhounds, and they are my world. Jeannie (I Dream of Jean Greyhound the Dark Phoenix) and Leia (Princess Cirque du Soleia Organa) are both small red brindles. In other words, they’re 60 pound tiger princesses.
Music I’ve been playing piano since I could reach the keyboard. Although classically trained for 8 years, I prefer improvising over studying other people’s music. I enjoy listening to almost all music, and my tastes vary over time. I’m in a metal head phase.
Languages I’ve studied French, Japanese, Korean, and a little Spanish, Navajo, and Hawaiian, but Korean is the only one I can hold a conversation in. My favorite sentence is “E ho’oma’ema’e ‘oe i ka papahele,” which is how you tell someone to clean the floor in Hawaiian.
Nerdy Stuff I love science of all kinds, especially biology, psychology, astrophysics, and quantum physics. Although I started pre-medical, I have a bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a Psychology minor. That’s basically anthropology and sociology.
Geeky Stuff I love sci fi and video games. Star Trek and Star Wars are both great, Marvel is killing it, I hope they’re working on a third Ori, and Zelda has always been my favorite.
Unorthodox Social Settings I do stand up comedy for fun sometimes, have been dancing salsa on and off since 2010, and talk to strangers at length while walking my dogs.
Hermit Mode Sometimes I just want to be glued to the TV with snacks and my dogs for days.
Oversharing When I ran away to Seoul, South Korea in 2009, I started a blog so that I didn’t have to tell the same stories to different people back home. I still post occasionally. Looking back at my early 20s is a trip.
